The D’Addario Foundation is partnering with Musicians Institute to launch the new Women in Drums Scholarship beginning in Spring 2022.

For several years, the D’Addario Foundation has been funding scholarships at the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles, CA, including the D’Addario Foundation Guitar Scholarship and the Evans Drumhead Scholarship. In 2019, the existing guitar scholarship evolved into the Women in Guitar Scholarship as a result of funding from the Foundation’s Girls in Music Initiative.

According to the Musicians Institute, currently and in recent history, 8% of drum students are female. That is why this year, the D’Addario Foundation and Musicians Institute will be transforming the Evans Drumheads Scholarship to the Women in Drums Scholarship into encourage more women to pursue drumming.

“We are proud to partner with the D’Addario Foundation and their ongoing support of the D’Addario Women in Guitar Scholarship and new Women in Drums Scholarship at Musicians Institute,” says Beth Marlis, Vice President at Musicians Institute. “These scholarships are powerful acknowledgments and recognition of the talents of deserving young women musicians at the college level. This kind of opportunity is truly transformative, empowering, and encouraging for young artists by providing both visibility and tangible financial support to excel in their music studies. We applaud the vision and leadership of D’Addario in supporting the next generation of female artists with the tools and recognition they need to launch successful and creative careers in the music industry.”

Each scholarship is $1,500, and awarded annually, to celebrate and provide financial support for the education of talented, newly enrolling female-identifying students—scholarship submissions for the 2022 year close on March 4, 2022.
