The Detroit Symphony Orchestra today announced that this weekend’s performances of Carmina Burana in Orchestra Hall have been cancelled to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) following recommendations made Wednesday evening by the State of Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Those concerts were scheduled for Thursday, March 12; Friday, March 13; Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15.

Anne Parsons, DSO president and CEO, said: “Our impulse as an orchestra is to proceed with performing music in times of crisis. However, in alignment with our Board of Directors and orchestra musicians, we believe we must follow the recommendations of public health officials. I am happy to share that beginning Friday we will be offering our on-demand archive of webcast performances for free at dso.org/live so that we can continue to share the gift of music. We hope that our audiences and supporters understand that health and safety remain our priority, and that we all do what we can to support one another during these unprecedented times.”
