Juilliard ChamberFest runs from Monday, January 13, through Wednesday, January 15, 2020, and features 131 Juilliard musicians in seven concerts over the course of three days.

ChamberFest repertoire will include works by Arensky, Brahms, Dvořák, Enescu, Phillip Houghton, Fred Lerdahl, Alvin Lucier, Mendelssohn, alumnus Steve Reich, Schoenberg, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, and Walton.

Among the highlights of this season’s ChamberFest will be a performance of Alvin Lucier’s Monteverdi Shapero (2019), coached by Juilliard Creative Associate Claire Chase and International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) members Joshua Rubin and Ryan Muncy, who will be joined by Juilliard Classical, Jazz and Historical Performance musicians on January 15, at 1p.m. in Alice Tully Hall. Monteverdi Shapero premiered in July 2019 with ICE and Ensemble Evolution at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, which commissioned the work.

All ChamberFest concert tickets are $10 and are available at juilliard.edu/calendar. The Wednesday at One concert in Alice Tully Hall on January 15 is free, and no tickets are required.

This year’s ChamberFest coaches are Nancy Allen, Mike Block, Natasha Brofsky (player-coach), Catherine Cho (player-coach), Claire Chase (player-coach), Daniel Druckman, Timothy Eddy, Conor Hanick, Joseph Kalichstein, Alan Kay, Fred Lerdahl, Joseph Lin, Ryan Muncy (player-coach), Samuel Rhodes, Joshua Rubin (player-coach), Fred Sherry, Laurie Smukler, Roger Tapping, and Areta Zhulla.

Natasha Brofsky, Claire Chase, Catherine Cho, Ryan Muncy, and Joshua Rubin’s appearances as player-coaches constitute the third year that students are heard performing side-by-side with eminent artists in ChamberFest, now an annual tradition.
