On Friday, April 9 from 7:30pm at 14B Rooftop Lounge – 14B 53rd Street Brooklyn, jazz impresario Michael Brovkine (Founder of Made in New York Jazz) is hosting an early return to the post-Covid concert world with this live set from trumpeter Philip Harder accompanied by his band: Jonathan Beshay (saxophone), Miki Yamanaka (piano), Dishan Harper (bass) and Curtis Nowasad (drums).

More details from the Brooklyn Rooftop Series (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dinner-on-the-rooftop-tickets-148541534729):

This set is part of Mr. Brovkine’s ongoing, biweekly Brooklyn Rooftop Series, currently hosted by 14B Rooftop Lounge in Brooklyn. These shows will be staged on open-air rooftops to best take advantage of social distancing protocols and the warming weather and will feature regular dinner and drink service throughout the evening. Seating reservation guarantees entry and socially-distanced dinner seating. All attendees must wear masks while at the event. Please refer to our complete COVID protocol information below.

Baltimore born Philip Harper started playing trumpet when he was ten years old under the tutelage of his older brother, Danny. Later he studied at Hartt School of Music with Jackie McLean. At the age of 18, Philip moved to New York, where he started working and recording extensively with such musicians as Jimmy Scott, Jimmy McGriff, Betty Carter, Etta Jones, Harry “Sweets” Edison, and Cedar Walton. Between the years 1986 and 1988, Harper was a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, with whom he made several live recordings. After leaving the Messengers, he formed a group with his brother, drummer Winard Harper. The Harper Brothers toured throughout the world and made several successful albums for Polygram/Verve. Philip Harper has made over 50 recordings, both as leader – including his solo albums “Soulful Sin” and “The Thirteenth Moon” on Muse Records – and as a sideman, earning him space on numerous jazz playlists and critic polls over the decades. Recently, Harper has been living in Europe as well as in the USA, playing with Benny Golson, Cedar Walton and the Mingus Big Band.

Reservations for the April 9 event are available now on Eventbrite. For interviews with Mr. Brovkine about the Brooklyn Rooftop Series or to request a press pass to this event, please contact John@GreenHousePublicity.com
