Sweetwater Sponsors Make Music Day

Sweetwater, a major supporter of music performance and music education, is working with Arts United, Adams Radio Group, and WANE TV to present Make Music Day, on Tuesday, June 21st in downtown Fort Wayne.

The Summer Solstice celebration will take place from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m at Freimann Square and the Arts United Campus, continuing in the evening with venues including SevenGen, The Dash-In, CS3, and The Brass Rail.

Make Music Day, an international celebration of music and music-makers, is free and open to the public. It is the perfect way for the family to celebrate making, playing, and sharing music.

Make Music Day is different from a typical music festival. This free community event is open to anyone who wants to participate, no matter the age, skill level, or preferred genre. The celebration focuses on making and sharing music with performances and interactive music experiences. The occasion honors music’s role in different cultures, its healing and inspirational qualities, and the way it makes people feel—both as players and listeners.

The event will offer a variety of interactive activities such as a ukulele strum – with Kala ukulele giveaways – a hands-on hammer dulcimer experience, a drum circle, a guitar jam zone, children’s craft and music areas, and much more.

In addition to interactive experiences, live artists will perform on two stages at Freimann Square and five stages in the evening. Featured musicians include Soft and Heavy, Exterminate All Rational Thought, Secret Mezzanine, Sophia Slates, Trichotomous Hippopotamus, The Addison Agen Band, and The Alicia Pyle Quartet.

Sweetwater is a proud national sponsor of the Make Music Alliance, a nonprofit group assisting city organizers around the world in planning and promoting Make Music Day, which is now celebrated in more than 700 cities in 120 different countries around the world.

Sweetwater founder and president Chuck Surack said, “Sweetwater is extremely proud to be a national sponsor of the Make Music Day effort to bring people together to make music. More importantly, we’re excited that it’s become an annual free event right here in Fort Wayne, one in which literally everyone is invited to either play or listen to music.”

As they create and enjoy a unique musical experience, attendees can also enjoy meals offered by Fort Wayne’s finest food trucks.

“Sweetwater is excited to stand alongside Arts United, WANE TV, and Adams Radio Group as a sponsor of this community event. Fort Wayne has a wonderful downtown and great local businesses that are eager to bring our community a great, all-ages musical event!” said Sweetwater Public Events Coordinator Jen Lock.
