The Eastman Family has announced that Rio Americano High School, led by Director Josh Murray, is the winner of the 2019 Perform With Mintzer Competition.

From among middle schools and high school jazz bands across the United States and Canada, the noted program from Sacramento, California rose to the top, and won the opportunity to have Bob Mintzer come to their school to perform with the band in a concert.

“This has been so much fun to be a part of over the years. Come on, getting to hear these students from all over the continent play so many jazz standards at such a high level? It’s a thrill for me, as I’m sure it is for their teachers, too. Congratulations to everyone who participated and especially Rio Americano,” said competition namesake, jazz legend and Eastman Artist, Bob Mintzer.

Eastman Saxophone product specialist, Roger Greenberg, added: “I could not have been more thrilled with the quality of video submissions for this new iteration of the Perform With Mintzer Competition. The top performers were all world-class, and really every participant has a lot to be proud of with their performances.”

Midwest Clinic Technology Pre-Conference

The Perform With Mintzer Competition is set for a return in the 2019-2020 school year.
