Continuing in its mission to assist drum teachers, the SABIAN Education Network recently held events in Nashville, TN, and San Antonio, TX. Each event was led by SEN director Joe Bergamini and included a panel of education experts who shared information and ideas with the attendees. The Nashville event was held October 27, 2015 and the panelists included business coach and former music industry executive Rick Drumm, Drumming’s Global Ambassador Dom Famularo, international touring and recording artist Rich Redmond, and well-known Nashville educator Zig Wajler. The San Antonio, TX event was held November 14, 2015, during PASIC, and the panel consisted of Dom Famularo, PAS Drum-set Committee Chairman Eric C. Hughes, and veteran Austin-based teacher Nic Marcy.
The focus of these events is to provide concrete ideas for drum teachers to build and improve their teaching practices. Each event began with a presentation from Bergamini covering a wide array of issues for the teacher, followed by a detailed talk from each panelist on a topic of his own expertise. The events concluded with questions, discussion, networking, and a cymbal giveaway.
“The SABIAN Education Network gathering at PASIC featured a fantastic panel and a great exchange of ideas amongst teachers. You can expect the same at all future events,” said SEN member and SABIAN artist/educator Jeremy Hummel. “If you are looking to improve in any area of your teaching business, these are ‘must attend’ events.”
SABIAN plans to stage more of these events in 2016, and invites drum educators to join SEN to take advantage of all the benefits of the program. SEN is open to all educators—from the private home studio teacher with a handful of students to a music school or educational institution—and provides a welcoming and inclusive forum for drum educators worldwide to exchange ideas and share skills.
